With version 1.5 I have improved the interface, added some additional selectors and updated others. This version also fixes a bug in version 1.03 that caused some older B & W Macs to crash.
Go Gestalt is a simple utility to give you information about your Macintosh; its use is straight forward. Launch Go Gestalt and select Go from the File menu. This will bring up the Go Gestalt main window. Then select whatever you wish from the main window pop-up menu. Select Done from the pop-up menu when you are finished. If you wish to save the info to disk, select "Save As TeachText…" from the File menu. Select Quit from the File menu to exit Go Gestalt.
I wrote Go Gestalt as a utility for those users that have a curiosity about the inner workings of their Macintosh. I did not write Go Gestalt to be a replacement for any commercial product and/or utility that gives you information about your Macintosh and will never intend it to be.
This is not an Extension or Control Panel. I did not patch any code or mess with the system in any way, so I see no reason why Go Gestalt would bomb your Mac. I don't have access to every Macintosh model out there to test it on. I have tested this version on these models…

Go Gestalt works by making a call to the Gestalt Manager with the appropriate selector and then posting the results in the Go Gestalt main window. However, Go Gestalt does not TEST the results. So if Go Gestalt returns wrong information, it may be from a problem with the Gestalt Manager itself, not necessarily with my program. I have not added any selector codes of my own to prevent any problems this might cause. If the Gestalt Manager returns an error, Go Gestalt will display "ERROR". If it returns an undefined value, Go Gestalt will simply display the value. Example: "00 UNKNOWN".
Note: If you run Go Gestalt on a PowerMac, Go Gestalt will return a value of "No FPU Installed" for a FPU type. This is not true since the PowerPC chip has an internal FPU. This is simply the value returned by the Gestalt Manager.
Because I cannot justify a fee for such a simple little utility, this is Freeware, not Shareware. So feel free to make copies and pass it around. Although, if you feel an overwhelming need to send me some money, send me whatever you think is fair (maybe a buck or two). It sure would help pay for all these programming classes!
